Emergency Response

Sudhaar was involved in flood emergency response in 2010 through donor funds, and as a result has gained rich experience for an effective response during and after the emergency. Sudhaar has an experience of more than 10 years collaboration with UNICEF through implementing 6 projects in sectors like emergency response, education in emergency, child protection, community WASH, Disaster Awareness and Mitigation Support etc. in Punjab. The sector-wise achievements are as follows;

  • Provision of WASH facilities including clean drinking water, dry-pit latrines, bathing facilities, health & hygiene promotion. Moreover, provision of safe drinking water to affected population, provision of water storage tanks, construction of hand washing facilities and installation of hand pumps. Provision of health and hygiene kits and jerry cans to the targeted families in affected areas.  Installation and maintenance of latrines in the relief centers and communities. Awareness raising and advocacy on the promotion of health and hygiene among the effected communities.
  • Child Protection through establishment of Child Friendly Spaces, Child Protection Centers, Birth-CNIC Registration, Provision of NFIs, psycho-social support, awareness and capacity building on Child Protection in Emergencies, Linking children and women with education, literacy, life skills and vocational trainings.
  • Education in Emergencies through establishment of Temporary Learning Centers TLCs, Transitional School Structures, Shelter Schools, School Development Planning, ECE centers, Training of School Councils, teachers, youth groups on Disaster Risk Reduction, Provision of School in a Box, Recreational Kits and health screening of Children
  • DRR/DRM through dealing with development of community based disaster management plans/school safety plans in 30 schools, promotion of community involvement in DRR and emergency preparedness, formation & strengthening of Child Disaster Management Committees and Adult Disaster Management committees at community and school levels, and incorporation of children participation in emergency preparedness activities. Besides, advocacy was undertaken for maintaining DRR in action planning and resource mobilization.
