Education

Recognizing education as a cornerstone of human development, Sudhaar prioritizes enhancing educational standards in Pakistan through diverse approaches and strategies. By fostering an educated society, Sudhaar aims to drive socio-economic progress, a goal it pursues in collaboration with key partners underscoring the value of sustained partnerships in achieving educational objectives. Sudhaar implemented around 13 projects and programs on education in multiple districts of Punjab.

Starting in 1996, Sudhaar collaborated with government-established school councils to enhance education quality, teacher attitudes, and school infrastructure. Leveraging school council funds, community contributions, and donations, Sudhaar introduced School Development Plans in thousands of government schools. Between 2002-2005, the Punjab Education and Planning Departments recognized Sudhaar’s efforts, leading to the formal adoption of School Council reorganization and Annual School Development Planning across the province, although government interest declined by 2009. Additionally, Sudhaar worked with 26 municipal schools in Kasur from 1996-2000, implementing similar initiatives to drive positive change.

In 1997, Sudhaar was approached by the Kasur District Administration to develop a District Education Plan, which was successfully implemented under the leadership of then Deputy Commissioner, Babar Fateh Yaqoob Muhammad. Building on this experience, Sudhaar went on to develop District Education Plans for over 24 districts across Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and AJK. While some of these plans were partially implemented by district governments, they marked an important step towards education planning and development in these regions.

Sudhaar partnered with Save the Children UK in between 1998-2003 in Sialkot to enhance education quality and infrastructure in over 138 government schools. This initiative was later supported by Adidas Group for nearly a decade, bringing significant benefits to 24,559 children. Through this collaboration, 861 head teachers and teachers worked together to achieve quality education, improving academic performance. Notably, around 546 infrastructure improvement projects were managed by local communities, providing thousands of children with access to clean drinking water, washrooms, electricity, improved classrooms, and furniture, ultimately transforming the learning environment and bringing joy to countless young faces.

In collaboration with the British Council’s “Take a Child to School” project, Sudhaar worked to encourage parents to enroll approximately 27,000 out-of-school children aged 6-11 in government schools. This initiative involves forming Mohallah Committees and introducing extracurricular activities to boost children’s interest in education. Implemented across three districts in Punjab, the project closely monitors and verifies enrollment and retention rates to ensure its effectiveness.

For the past decade, Sudhaar has collaborated with the German corporate entity, The Hartmann Group, and their local suppliers in Sialkot to support over 150 children. By removing these children from surgical workshops, Sudhaar has facilitated their enrollment in mid-level private schools near their homes. Many of these children have gone on to achieve significant educational milestones, including completing bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as high school. Additionally, they receive comprehensive healthcare services from qualified doctors, further enhancing their well-being and opportunities for a brighter future.

We’re collaborating with six government schools on the “Football for Good” project, utilizing football as a tool to boost enrollment and retention. With support from international partners like Kick for Tolerance, FIFA Foundation Community Programme, and LaGuilde, we’re implementing key initiatives. These include establishing boys’ and girls’ football leagues and competitions, as well as a curriculum focused on promoting peace and tolerance, all aimed at creating a positive impact on students and their communities.
