1. Women’s Enjoyment of Rights, Empowerment and Leadership (WE’RE Leaders) February 01, 2020 to September 30, 2023
Women’s Enjoyment of Rights, Empowerment and Leadership (WE’RE Leaders) is a project that is conceived keeping in view significant systemic challenges to achieving gender equality in Pakistan. Sudhaar is implementing the project with the financial support of Trust for Democratic Education and Accountability (TDEA).
Capacitation under the project tailor for individuals as well as institutions that enhance women’s ability to participate in political processes. This includes training of the following: up to 10 potential young women leaders on polishing their leadership skills and engaging the most talented in an internship program to develop these qualities; up to 90 political party representatives on more effective inclusion of women in their decision-making roles; up to 40 representatives of the media, citizen journalists, and activists on progressive portrayals of women in the media; up to 25 female local councilors on effectively carrying out their duties.
Facilitation under the project aim to lay a path for increasing women’s entry into the political arena; registering up to 35,000 women across districts Sialkot and Narowal of Punjab Pakistan and including them in the electoral rolls through registration of their National Identity Card (NIC); and facilitating up to 15 potential women candidates on how to contest elections.
2. Electoral Quality and Inclusiveness in Pakistan (EQuIP) Oct 16, 2022 to December 31, 2023)
Sudhaar as Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) member organization is implementing the project in five districts of Punjab Pakistan with the financial support of Trust for Democratic Education and Accountability (TDEA). TDEA is implementing the Electoral Quality and Inclusiveness in Pakistan (EQuIP) project with the support of the United States Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL). The EQuIP project aims to contribute and promote free and fair elections in Pakistan, especially in technical quality and inclusiveness. The project is being implemented by the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) with the support of the Coalition for Inclusive Pakistan (CIP).
3. Strengthening Citizens’ Engagement for Inclusive and Accountable Local Governance (December 15, 2022 to November 30, 2023)
Sudhaar is implementing, Strengthening Citizens’ Engagement for Inclusive and Accountable Local Governance in Lahore with the financial support of Center for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI). The goal of the project is to strengthen the ability of CSOs, media groups and citizens for promoting efficient, transparent, responsive and accountable local governments in Pakistan. Sudhaar is organizing following tasks and responsibilities in the assigned district:
Coordination with members of marginalized communities (e.g., persons with disabilities, religious minorities, transgender persons, etc.) to assess their needs and challenges, and offer appropriate support to connect them with LGs;
- Submit and follow up on information requests (at least 4 per month) and complaints with focus on issues related to LGs under the relevant right to information laws;
- Facilitate at least 4 members of the community each month in submitting information requests and complaints related to any issue that they may be facing in relation to the LGs;
- Mobilization of community members, especially women and marginalized ones) to respond to or participate in the activities organized by the LGs with the aim of obtaining feedback of stakeholders including on service delivery, development planning, annual budgets and tax proposals;
- Provide coordination, logistical, community mobilization and stakeholder engagement support to the CPDI project teams in organizing field activities (e.g., debates, meetings, dialogues, trainings, outreach activities, awareness campaigns, media engagement, etc.) and effecting required change;
- Disseminate and promote awareness materials, both print and electronic, developed under the project;
- Establish and maintain linkages with stakeholders including LGs, elected councilors, members of the legislatures, civil society organizations, educational institutions, community leaders, local media and bloggers;
4. Developing and delivering Capacity Development Programme to Law Enforcement Agencies related to Child Labour (December 20, 2022 to July 30, 2023)
Sudhaar is implementing, “Developing and delivering capacity development programme to law enforcement agencies related to child labor” with the support of ILO. The organization is fully responsible for adequate and timely implementation of the proposed program including coordinating, organizing and delivery of trainings in all the four provinces of Pakistan. The content and implementation methodology should consider making the best use of existing experience, materials and outreach modalities to maximize the effectiveness of existing institutions and knowledge. The collaborating partner responsible to undertake following deliverables:
- Submission of comprehensive work plan including proposed implementation methodology
- Development/adaption of one capacity building module/materials
- Selection and Training of Trainer (ToT) of group (at least 150-200) relevant officials from all the four provinces to have enhanced capacities, reporting and committing to apply the new learnings in their respective work
- Coordination and Linkages Development with law enforcement agencies to address Child Labour
- Development of Inter-Agency Coordination Mechanisms at Federal and Provincial level; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, digital app etc.
- Final report documenting the process; capacity building events and relevant photographs, media coverage, contact list of participants, pre and post-event assessment/feedback of participants and recommendations for future
- Financial report detailing all expenditure along with supporting documents
5. Monitoring and Evaluation of English and Digital for Girls' Education (EDGE) Project (March 01, 2023 to January 31, 2024)
The monitoring and evaluation of the EDGE project will be conducted by Sudhaar Society in partnership with the British Council and Muslim Hands International (MHI). This exercise aims to monitor that the planned project activities are performed effectively for achievement of the intended objectives of the project; identify strengths and areas for improvement, and also provide evidence based recommendations for course correction, if need be, for timely completion of the project. The findings generated over the life cycle through M&E of the project will contribute to the ongoing learning and adaptation of the project, ensuring its effectiveness in empowering girls in marginalized communities. The recommendations may also inform the future scale-up or expansion of the project in other areas of Pakistan.
The EDGE programme focuses on addressing gender inequality and promoting girls’ education in South Asia; Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Its purpose to improve the life prospects of adolescent girls in socio-economically marginalized communities. It focuses on enhancing participants’ English proficiency, digital skills and awareness of social issues. As a result, they will be better able to make more informed and independent life choices, as is their right, in order to contribute more fully to the family, economy and society. In addition, EDGE aims to improve the leadership skills of a smaller group of peer leaders drawn from the same communities of adolescent girls.
In this way, the EDGE project in Pakistan aims to provide safe learning spaces for girls to learn English and digital skills, access information, and discuss issues affecting their lives. Through peer-led afterschool clubs, the project empowers girls, builds their confidence, and enables them to make informed life choices. The project modalities involve establishing EDGE clubs in six locations across Pakistan, namely Lahore, Islamabad, Jhelum, Gujrat, Sargodha, and Peshawar. Approximately 600 girls aged between 13 and 19 will participate in these clubs, which will meet weekly or twice weekly. The clubs will be facilitated by trained Peer Group Leaders (PGLs) from the same communities, with support from schoolteachers serving as Venue Coordinators (VCs).
6. Move for the Planet Project (June 01, 2023 to May 31, 2024)
Sudhaar is implementing Move for the Planet Project with the support of adidas x Common Goal. The ‘Save our Future’ project will allow all youth in the community to play an active role, to learn and act together to address climate change at the local level and to encourage healthier and safe environments.
Project description and core actions
- Turning recycled materials into sport infrastructure:
The project will be implemented in the district of Sialkot Punjab in Pakistan and will enable the development of a new sports facility using recycled plastic, including the construction of a football pitch, spectator stands and changing rooms. The facility will provide access to 3,000 participants on a monthly basis and aims to use an estimated 50% recycled material, including eco-building blocks made with recycled plastic waste.
- Sustainable management process:
The project will establish two dry waste collection centers, while support the development of a sustainable business model to collect plastic waste.
- Education on environmental sustainability and sports:
The project will identify potential youth in the communities and enhance their knowledge to tackle climate action. The trained youth will launch awareness campaigns and establish collection centers so that trash can be collected properly and be transferred to the waste management department and recycling plant.
7. FIFA Foundation Community Program 2023 (May 01, 2023 to December 31, 2023)
Sudhaar is implementing the project at grass-root level in three (3) villages/schools of district Sialkot Punjab, Pakistan. In the current programme, approximately 75 children (50 old and 25 new) with 80% girls and 20 boys are the participants through expanding in one new village/school.
The project emphasis to connect and empower youth from rural communities, using a holistic Sports-For-Development Curriculum to become young leaders and agents for peace reshaping their environment.
A comprehensive curriculum is adapted for kids addressing holistic social and life skills, identity and to create a positive space for encounter and dialogue and for education on values, such as fair play, democracy and gender.
Rural communities and families have been motivated to support a programme that takes their children on an educational journey to make intercultural experiences and connect on international levels.
